Important Notice Regarding Older Method/Basic Authentication for accessing Exchange Email
Effective October 10, 2022, Microsoft will begin disabling older method/outdated basic authentication methods for accessing email. If you use an email client with the older method/basic authentication method, you will no longer be able to access your email using that client. However, you can continue to access your emails via the web client https://portal.office.com/. All Microsoft cloud services are modern authentication capable for enhanced security.
Who is affected?
If you are already using multi-factor authentication (MFA) for your McMaster account, you shouldn’t be impacted since your McMaster email account already requires modern authentication. However, after October 1st, you may need to sign in again to any web browser apps you are using or clear your web browser cache.
McMaster email accounts such as role-based, service, or email accounts that are not using multi-factor authentication are affected.
What to do:
Affected users need to use or upgrade to an email client that supports modern authentication. Email clients that support modern authentication such as Outlook 2016, Outlook 2019, Outlook 365, Outlook Mobile App, Mac Mail macOS 10.14 or later, iOS 11 or later, iPadOS 13.1 or later, and latest version of Thunderbird.
Users who are unable to upgrade to an email client that supports modern authentication, can access their McMaster email using a web browser through the Microsoft Office 365 website – https://outlook.office.com/
