Learn more about the AnyDesk security incident

AnyDesk, the remote desktop software sometimes used by University Technology Services (UTS) to connect to other devices and help with technical issues, recently faced a security breach in its production systems.
According to AnyDesk’s public statement, there is no evidence that any customer data has been exfiltrated and there is no reason to believe that any end-user devices have been affected by this incident.
For purposes of safety and security, University Technology Services (UTS) is uninstalling the application from devices managed by the UTS department.
Due to this breach, McMaster community members are also urged to remain increasingly vigilant of remote access scams. These cunning schemes involve fraudsters manipulating victims into downloading apps that grant them total control over their computers.
