Self-Service Password Reset Tool Becomes Available to McMaster
Self-service password reset (SSPR) is a tool that will vastly improve your McMaster experience when it comes time to reset or recover your MacID password. Effective May 27, 2021, SSPR will be available for students, faculty members and staff to use to reset passwords for McMaster accounts.
SSPR enables you to safely manage your own password reset without the need of logging a ticket with the UTS Service Desk — giving you more control to easily and quickly reset your password anywhere and anytime.
What happens when SSPR is switched on?
When SSPR is enabled, your experience will be as follows:
- Next time you log into a Microsoft service with your MacID and password, you will receive a notice that SSPR has been enabled and must fill in your recovery information.
- You will have up to two weeks to fill in the recovery information, after which you will be prompted to complete the process.
- Once you’ve registered for SSPR, you will receive an email inviting you to register for Multi-factor Authentication (MFA).

How do I use SSPR?
After you have completed registration, each time you want to reset your password, you will be asked to confirm your identity by providing your recovery information. You can confirm your identity by providing proof through a second factor beyond your current password, such as a separate email, text message, push notification or phone call. You can change your recovery information at any time.
Why now?
To support a more secure McMaster IT experience, SSPR is part of a global password reset of all MacID accounts.
