Multi-Factor Implementation for VPN Access (Live: Oct. 16, 2024)
We are excited to announce that we will implement Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for our VPN services on Oct. 16, 2024.
As many members of the McMaster community are already familiar with MFA through the Microsoft Office 365 environment, this additional layer of security will be familiar.
Why MFA?
- Enhanced Security: MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access to our internal resources.
- Protecting You: Your data and privacy remain our top priorities.
What to Expect:
- Effective October 16, 2024, all VPN access will require MFA authentication.
Please review this walkthrough to know what to expect.
1) These instructions apply to the ‘Connect From Home’ profile that most use when connecting to the VPN.Select Connect From Home if it’s not already selected and click Connect.
2) Sign in with your MAC ID but include @mcmaster.ca. Example: mymacid@mcmaster.ca
3) Enter your MAC ID password.
4) Approve the sign in using your preselected method. Non- MFA enabled MAC IDs will login directly and skip steps 4 and 5.
5) Click Yes to proceed. This screen is redundant given we have configured the VPN to force authentication on each login. You will see it at each login.
6) Accept the connection. The timeouts and other settings have not changed.
We appreciate your cooperation as we work together to create a safer digital environment for our McMaster community.
