New Telecom Service Model

UTS will no longer charge for recurring operational network and telecommunications services for all units and Faculties that are part of the operating fund, effective May 1, 2025.

The operating fund will include coverage for the following services, hardware and operations:

  • The integrated campus network and telecoms operations (and our various service providers)
  • All software and systems used to manage and support the network
  • Integrated telecommunications licensing
  • Long distance capabilities
  • Handsets and peripherals
  • All other software and technology that provides staff and faculty with the ability to voice dial and connect to the internet

To account for this change, an approved base funding amount has been added to the base budget allocation for UTS, via the Budget Committee process for funding changes. The calculation for this funding was based on the amount each Faculty and Support Unit was charged in FY 2023/24. Our Budgeting Services team has made the necessary adjustments for the coming 2025/2026 fiscal year, having a net zero impact on the surplus/deficit of each support unit.

These changes are specific to the operating fund and do not include affiliate or ancillary units, including any research or supporting unit entities outside of the operating budget process.  These units and entities will continue to be charged for telecom and network services, but on a quarterly basis instead of monthly. This change will simplify the process and reduce administrative work.

What about Unique One-Time Telecom/Network Requests?

UTS will continue to offer comprehensive and efficient services to all our clients. Occasionally, special work order requests fall outside our standard offerings.  When we receive these special requests, our team will assess the site and submit a quote for client approval.  Once approved we will proceed with the work and recover the costs associated with the work order.

See the following table for a more detailed understanding of one-time services that may be charged:
