Ensuring you are technologically equipped for your academic studies is crucial.
University Technology Services (UTS) – the central IT provider on campus – has curated a list of six things you need to know to be tech-ready for the fall semester:
1. Use free WiFi on campus
McMaster students have access to free Wi-Fi on campus. To login, simply use your Mac ID and password. Learn more on the UTS website.
2. Reset and recover your password with ease
Forgot your password? McMaster users can reset their MacID account password anywhere and anytime by following this easy step-by-step guide.
3. Stuck with an IT issue? We can help you
You can chat with an IT expert online, use the UTS chatbot, or get in-person support with tech issues related to your Mac ID, password, WiFi, email, multi-factor authentication, Microsoft 365 and more. Learn more on the UTS Contact Us webpage.
4. Free Microsoft 365!
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more – for free! All you need is your Mac ID to login. After logging in, check out the Discover Microsoft 365 Site for tips on how to use these apps more effectively. Also, be sure to check out the other software and services available to students.
5. Stay cyber-safe
Cybercriminals may send you unsolicited emails trying to trick you into sharing personal information or purchasing gift cards. Familiarize yourself with the common signs of phishing and report any suspicious emails to is-spam@mcmaster.ca. You can also keep an eye on the McMaster Phish Bowl to see examples of phishing reported by the McMaster Community. If you fall victim to a phishing scam, don’t be embarrassed. Report it to University Technology Services.
6. Ace online learning
Familiarize yourself with Avenue to Learn – the primary platform you will use to access your course materials. Also, if you’re taking an online course, the Student Success Centre has you covered with information, resources, and tips to support your academic performance online.
