Protect your MacID: Never share your credentials

Your MacID is your personal “digital key” used to access various McMaster systems and applications such as Mosaic, Avenue to Learn and Microsoft 365.
McMaster’s IT Security Team has identified an increase in third-party services requesting students’ MacID and password for various purposes.
Remember, sharing your MacID and password is never safe. Doing so jeopardizes your personal information and could put McMaster’s systems at risk.
You should treat your MacID and password as you would treat your online banking credentials:
- Use your MacID only on McMaster’s secure platforms.
- Never Share your MacID with anyone. Your MacID and password are for your use only.
- Do not use your MacID login credentials to create an account with third-party services.
- Do not click on unfamiliar links or attachments in unsolicited emails, as they may be malicious attempts to steal your MacID password.
If you shared your MacID credentials with a third-party service, change your password immediately using McMaster’s password reset tool, or contact the UTS Service Desk for support.
By taking these steps, you can protect your personal information and support McMaster’s efforts to maintain a secure digital environment.
If you notice a website or suspicious service that may potentially be misusing MacID, please report it to the information security team by email at c-it-security@mcmaster.ca
Stay safe, stay secure, and always think twice before sharing your MacID.
